Bevis
While we specialise in music royalties and royalty auditing, we offer general practice services including business plan preparation, business sale, succession, and dissolution, as well as both internal and external accounting management. Bevis and Co have undertaken almost 2,000 royalty audits for clients in the music, record, film, book and computer games industries.

It is estimated that we have uncovered total under accounting of music royalties of nearly 250m. A full royalty audit will uncover royalty underpayments to the licensor, offer advice on structuring artist, writer and licensing agreements without breaking the relationship between the parties.
Services
We believe strongly in concentrating on what we do best; royalty auditing in the entertainment industry.
All other accounting and business management work is passed to our sister company, Music Business Associates.
Our Director, Chris Bevis, controls every audit.
He is able to concentrate on the sharp end because he has a superb team managing compliance, data analysis, reporting and other administrative tasks.
Bevis & Co has carried out royalty audits for some of the best-known names in the music business.
Our General Manager, Nicki Cornelius, has many years' experience in accountancy and taxation work.
She is very proactive and is an expert in IRIS (company/sole trader accounts preparation) and MTD (Making Tax Digital).
Our support staff are very adaptable and can produce Excel spreadsheets from PDFs at the drop of a hat.
Since 1986 Chris has been developing his skills as a royalty auditor with Bevis and Co and has undertaken almost 2,000 royalty audits for clients in the music, record, film, book and computer games industries.
Bevis & Co boast an impressive history of clients, and have enjoyed relationships with Sony, Universal, Beggars Banquet, MOS and Domino on the corporate side, as well as Lennon and McCartney, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley, The Clash, Dido, Enya, Jamie Cullum, Primal Scream and Bill Bailey on the artist and writer side.
A full royalty audit will uncover royalty underpayments to the licensor, offer advice on structuring artist, writer and licensing agreements without breaking the relationship between the parties.
Our auditors have the best experience to identify key commercial issues which the royalties department may have found it hard to deal with practically.
Examples of underpayments uncovered in a royalty audit include simple maths errors, unreported changes to royalty rates at certain threshholds, errors in the royalty rate, disallowed deductions relating to definitions of gross and net sales, underreported sales and questionable licence interpretation.
A Royalty Audit is carried out on behalf of the owner of Intellectual Property (IP) who has licensed that IP to a third party in exchange for payments based on usage (usually called "royalties").
The royalty audit is used to the check that the licensee is paying the correct royalties.
The royalty and licensing process is a very complex one and even the best run firms make mistakes.
This complexity makes it possible for less scrupulous licensees to deliberately understate the level of royalties due.
