Both Gary and Tony began their training with well respected local accountancy firms before taking their careers in different directions. After private practice, Gary joined the Inland Revenue and was quickly promoted to Inspector of Taxes, where he specialised in investigation work.
Eventually, deciding to return to his roots, Gary left to join a large firm of Chartered Accountants in London where he acted as tax manager. Around that time, many of Gary's friends and contacts were going into business in their own right and looked to Gary for advice and so he decided to start Perrin & Co in order to deal with their needs.
After several years in practice, including as a tax manager, Tony transferred to the corporate world when he accepted a position as a financial accountant with a large, well-known book distributor.

Under the MTD rules paper accounting records cease to meet requirements and are no longer deemed as sufficient: In order to comply it will be necessary for almost all businesses (self-employed, partnerships, LLPs and limited companies) and larger landlords to use software or spreadsheets to keep their accounting records.
Quarterly reporting: Three-monthly reporting of VAT figures is standard; however, when 'full MTD' is implemented there will also be a requirement to submit trading data to HMRC each quarter directly from bookkeeping software or spreadsheets, and it must be sent within one month of the end of each quarter.
