Stephen Harris has been engaged in forensic accountancy since 1979. Quite simply, this is the application of accountancy skills and knowledge to assist in the resolution of legal disputes. Stephen established his own practice in 1994 and since then has continued to specialise in this area. He has been instructed in a very large number of cases and these have included many of high value.

Some have been widely reported in the media and in professional journals. A large part of the work arises from claims for damages following personal injury or fatal accident, or losses from business interruption and similar incidents. For further details see "Areas of Work". Instructions are received either from those advising the claimant or those advising the defendant, or jointly.

The practice acts for solicitors throughout the UK and some have been clients of Stephen Harris for more than 20 years. Much of the work culminates in reports addressed to the Court, having been commissioned by the party instructing Stephen Harris & Co.
Services
Depending upon the instructions given, we undertake investigations and prepare reports on the losses claimed, or assist in the quantification of the losses.
Our reports may be addressed to the Court where proceedings have commenced.
Alternatively, they may be addressed to those instructing us where our work is of an advisory nature.
With increasing frequency we are being asked to prepare (or to assist with certain aspects of) formal Schedules of Loss.
These are supplemented by detailed supporting schedules where required, explaining the sources of information and providing an explanation of the assumptions made.
Our aim has always been to provide Solicitors, Barristers and their Clients with an efficient, reliable and cost-effective service.
For many years, much of our work has come on the recommendation of Barristers and existing Solicitor clients.
We are known for being readily available and for dealing with matters very quickly when required.
In those cases in which Stephen Harris is appointed as an expert, he recognises his overriding duty to the Court.
In the changing fields of civil and criminal litigation we continue to strive to meet our clients' need for first-class litigation support.
Stephen Harris qualified as a chartered accountant in 1975, with Touche Ross & Co (now Deloitte) in Manchester.
Between 1972 and 1979 he obtained a wide range of experience in audit, accountancy and taxation.
This was in the aerospace, nuclear power, electronics, banking and insurance sectors, and also in engineering companies of various sizes and major garage groups.
Additional assignments at that time included a charity, a unit trust company and various businesses with incomplete accounting records.
